Have you ever found yourself faced with the dilemma of what to do with your old furniture or cabinets when upgrading your home? Instead of adding to landfills, there's a better way! At Alexa Interiors, our dedicated designers are committed to minimizing waste during renovations and remodels. Since many of our clients share these concerns, we've compiled a list of eco-friendly options for recycling during your remodel project.

Furniture: Give Your Pieces a Second Life

When you're ready to part with your old furniture, consider these local donation hubs that are eager to give your items a new lease on life:

  • The Other Side Academy: This nonprofit donation service, conveniently based in Denver, offers a hassle-free solution for donating furniture. They even provide a pickup service through their truck and movers. Arrange a pickup by calling 720-615-0005 or by emailing donations.co@theothersideacademy.com.

  • Evergreen Animal Protection League Thrift Shop: If you're passionate about supporting animal rescue efforts, the EAPL Thrift Shop is the perfect destination for your furniture donations. The shop's profits contribute entirely to aiding lost, abandoned, and suffering animals. Donations are accepted from Monday to Friday until 3pm, and Saturdays until 2pm.

  • Golden Goodwill: Not only does Goodwill accept your furniture donations, but you'll also receive a tax deduction for your generosity. Drop off your items at the Golden location from Monday to Saturday, 9am-8pm, and Sundays, 9am-7pm. Although there is a drop off location in Bergan Park, this location only accepts small items such as clothing.

  • Arc Thrift Store: By donating your furniture to Arc Thrift Store, you're supporting local individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Donations are welcome at the Lakewood store off Alameda Monday to Saturday, 9am-8pm, and Sundays, 10am-5pm, fostering a strong sense of community and charity.

Furniture, Cabinetry & Appliances: Building Hope with Every Donation

If you're looking to donate your kitchen cabinets, contact Ben's Repurposed Cabinetry to recycle them! Ben and his family will gladly take those old cabinets off your hands to repurpose and sell them at a discounted price. For more information, email recycle@benscabinetry.com with images of your existing kitchen with the cabinets still installed. For a broader range of items, including furniture, cabinetry, and appliances, consider Evergreen Habitat ReStore. This establishment is aligned with Habitat for Humanity's mission to provide affordable housing and shelter. Donation hours for small items are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, 10am-3pm. For larger items, please schedule a drop off time or pick up by emailing donate@bluesprucerestore.org with images of your items.

Packaging: Making Eco-Friendly Choices

When it comes to sustainable packaging, two nearby options stand out:

  • SustainAbility: For only $3, responsibly dispose of items like Styrofoam, plastic bags, bubble wrap, and more that can't be put in regular recycling bins. Drop off at the Arvada location Mon-Thu 9am-4pm, Fri-Sat 9am-3pm.

  • Walmart: Your local Walmart offers a solution for recycling plastic bags and films, including bubble wrap. Find the drop-off bin near the main entrance on the produce side during regular store hours, Monday to Sunday, 6am-11pm.

Profitable Alternatives: Sell Online with Ease

If you're looking to make some extra cash from your gently used furniture, kitchen cabinets & countertops to appliances, consider online platforms like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. These user-friendly platforms can help you quickly find new homes for your items. You can also amplify your reach by joining local community pages, such as Evergreen Colorado Neighbors & Friends, Evergreen Colorado Online Yard Sale, Kittredge Community Connection, and Bailey/Conifer Colorado Online Garage Sale. By leveraging these resources and ensuring your own sustainable remodeling with Alexa Interiors, you're not only contributing to a greener environment by reducing landfill waste, but also supporting local businesses, charities, and nonprofits. Let's work together to create a sustainable future for our homes and communities.
